The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) has issued a plea to global leaders, churches, and international bodies focused on humanitarian and human rights efforts, as well as all individuals with a commitment to justice, to actively pursue the prompt liberation of Mariupol’s defenders and all Ukrainian detainees, both military and civilian, who have been held in Russian captivity for two years.
For the UWC and the broader Ukrainian diaspora, securing the freedom of these Ukrainian POWs is a paramount concern.
“Convening in great numbers at the Ukrainian World Congress leadership Summit in the heart of Romania, the plea for the release of our brave defenders of Mariupol and the detained Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel naturally emerged as a pressing issue. Commemorating the two-year mark of Mariupol’s occupation, international rallies for the freedom of these prisoners of war will be taking place. We urge our governments to step up their initiatives to rectify this grave humanitarian crisis,” – noted UWC President Paul Grod.
